first_imgCommunities Minister Ronald Bulkan has committed to ensuring the long-awaited rehabilitation of the Christianburg Primary School is executed in a timely manner. This follows an assessment visit by the Minister to the currently unoccupied facility on Saturday. For a number of years, members of the Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) of the school have decried its deplorable condition, which they say pose a threat to the safety of both the students and teachers. According to the PTA, numerous letters and complaints were made to the previous Administration concerning repairs to the school, but those efforts proved futile.“We have learnt from residents of the inconvenience it (the school) poses, because their children must travel a few miles to St Aidan’s Primary School. So, it has been recognised as a priority for the Regional Administration – this rehabilitation of the Primary School and I’ve committed to looking into that issue and addressing it,” the Minister told the Department of Public Information (DPI).Minister Bulkan also visited the Wismar Municipal Market which has undergone repairs to the roof, including the installation of translucent sheets. He explained that efforts to further improve the facility are on the cards. “There’s a request for some additional support on the roof,” the Minister explained, adding that “in the period of heavy rainfall, there are some leaks, so the engineer will look into that issue to see what assistance and how immediate it can be offered, to address that particular problem.”According to Minister Bulkan, there is also a request that a second floor be installed in the facility “to allow for other vending activities, like fast food booths. That will also be looked into by the Ministry.”last_img
